Economic Development

BGA designs strategies that drive economic growth, resilience, and sustainability across regional Australia. Our team applies detailed socioeconomic analysis, community engagement, and place-based insights to shape effective economic development plans.

We led the creation of Regional Economic Development Strategies (REDS) for over 25 LGAs, and delivered resilience strategies in regions such as Cobar and Oberon. Our work has supported tourism, workforce planning, industrial precincts, and remote community development.

Project included interviews with key regional stakeholders and Council staff. The report analysed migration patterns and property assessment notices to inform land use patterns. The economic audit used analytical tools such as Industry Composition, Input-Output, Location Quotient and Shift Share to develop a snapshot of the Oberon Shire economy.

The agricultural sector dominates the local economy, followed by Retail Trade, Education and Training, and Health Care and Social Assistance. Recommendations for the economic development of the region include developing a café precinct to attract tourists, creating business support programs, and focusing on industries that support agriculture.
