Scrapping 86,000 New Car Parking Spaces Could Save $5.2 Billion
A Grattan Institute report warns Australia will waste $5.2bn building 86,000 unneeded car parking spaces over five years, driven by minimum parking spots per apartment bedroom. They estimate that up to 40% of spaces under apartment buildings already sit empty nightly and that these rules add up to $137,000 to apartment construction costs, reducing housing supply and pushing up rents. 2026 Infrastructure Priority List
Infrastructure Australia has released its 2026 Infrastructure Priority List, with 68 high-priority proposals to guide investment over the next decade. The proposals aim address five priority areas: high productivity freight networks, ports capacity and connectivity, high-capacity transport for growing cities, secure sustainable water for growth, and delivering net zero and clean energy economy. Infrastructure Australia has published a dashboard with the proposal that includes three expected timing windows, with the higher share of projects expected to be in a 2-4-year pipeline. AgriWebb Snapped Up by One of the World’s Largest Bovine Genetics Companies
URUS Group announced an agreement to acquire Australian agtech company AgriWebb, with the deal expected to close in Q3 2026. AgriWebb's platforms manage more than 25% of Australian farm livestock and also service producers in North America and Europe. The announcement indicated that URUS and AgriWebb will support 25 million animals across their combined data platforms, spanning dairy farmers, beef producers, and ranchers worldwide. Read more here

Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft Back Data Center Innovation Fund for Clean Energy Technologies
Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft have backed a new clean energy initiative called the Data Center Innovation Initiative. It will invest $500,000–$5 million in up to 10 startups through 2027, targeting four main areas: energy storage, cooling, electrical systems, and low-carbon materials. The initiative aims to accelerate emerging technologies from pilot stage into industry-wide deployment. Read more here
Record year for Australian goatmeat highlighted in 2025
Meat & Livestock Australia announced that in 2025 Australia's goatmeat industry reached new highs in production and exports. Exports reached 61,766 tonnes with export values at $464 million, 28% higher year-on-year. Despite producing less than 1% of global goatmeat supply, Australia accounts for 61% of global export volume.
